Located just outside Philly in Wynnewood, "The English Village" is a true hidden gem that may be unknown to even frequent passersby and local residents.

This local historic district is a planned residential community that contains 29 spectacular homes inspired by England's Stratford-upon-Avon and reminiscent of the Medieval era. Between 1925 and 1930, brothers Donald and Arthur Love began work that would capitalize on the then popular Tudor Revival style of housing; however, they took the customary style to another level.

Designed to look like authentic old world cottages, the homes feature crooked, hand-hewn timbers, patterned stone, leaded-glass casement windows, hardwood rounded doors, tall end-chimneys, Juliet balconies, and more historic charm. The detail in the village is extraordinary. With no sidewalks, winding lanes, tightly-sited houses, and narrow setbacks, the neighborhood appears to have existed for centuries. Enhancing authenticity include "period" rain barrels, bird houses, fencing, and statuary.

Street parking is difficult. It is best to park at nearby Lower Merion High School and take a short walk to Loves Lane.
