Congregation Mikveh Israel, known as the "Synagogue of the American Revolution," is the oldest formal congregation in Philadelphia and the oldest continuous synagogue in the United States. The Mikveh Israel Cemetery was established in 1740 and is the oldest Jewish cemetery in the city.
