Built in 1870, the Van Sant Covered Bridge may have a haunted past. Legend says numerous tragic events occurred there, including the nighttime suicide of a distraught young mother, shunned by family and friends. After throwing her infant off of the bridge, the mother proceeded to hang herself from the rafters inside. Some who have driven or walked through the bridge have heard frightening, out-of-the ordinary sounds ... which may be the anguished cries of a baby.
