Reading Terminal Market
The popular market has been housed National Historic Landmark building since 1893. After open air markets fell out of favor with the general public, as they were considered health hazards, nuisances, and also created obstacles for the ever-increasing streetcar traffic, two main indoor markets sprang up at 12th and Market Streets. They were known as the Farmers' Market and the Franklin Market, and these two markets became the forerunners of what is now Reading Terminal Market.
