Osage Avenue Bombing

Osage Avenue Bombing

In 1985, after a standoff in which a Philadelphia police officier was killed, the Police Department dropped a bomb on a houseful of activists who called themselves MOVE. Eleven people were killed, and a resulting raging fire destroyed more than 50 homes. Today, half the homes on the 6200 blocks of Osage Avenue and Pine Street are vacant, with front doors padlocked and covered with plywood.
