Dearing Farm

In 1866 at modern-day 3rd Street and West Oregon Avenue in South Philadelphia, a grisly crime took place at the then rural Dearing Farm. Anton Probst ransacked the house of his employers and brutally killed eight people, including six members of the Dearing family. Moyamensing Prison housed Probst until he was hanged for committing the largest mass murder in Philadelphia at that time.
