Moyamensing Prison was in use from 1835 until 1963. The Gothic-style prision featured dramatic, castellated towers. Among those Incarcerated was H.H. Holmes, America's first seriel killer, who was hanged there in 1896. Moyamensing was also the site of Pennsylvania's last execution by hanging. Most of the structure was torn down in 1967 to make way for a shopping area.
